One colour in, a palette that works.

Pick the colour your brand already wears, or start from a colour of Rajasthan. The tool builds a balanced 60-30-10 palette and tells you in plain words which pairs are safe for reading. It runs in your browser, so nothing you choose is sent anywhere.

Your colour and your palette stay on this page. We never see them.

Before you commit to it.

  • Start from one colour you already like

If you have a logo, use its main colour. If you do not, pick a starter from the Rajasthan set and judge the palette, not the swatch.

  • Give each colour one job

The quiet main colour carries most of a page. Your brand colour marks who you are. The accent is for the one thing you want noticed, such as a button or an offer. A colour without a job is clutter.

  • Check the pairs before you print

Small text needs a contrast ratio of at least 4.5 to 1. The table shows every pair. If a pair says large text only, use it for headings and buttons, not for paragraphs.

  • Test it where it will live

Look at the palette on a phone in daylight, and on a printed sample before a signboard or a flex banner goes to the printer. Screens and ink never match exactly.

About this tool.

What does 60-30-10 mean for a brand?

It is a rule of thumb for balance. About 60 percent of a layout is a quiet main colour, about 30 percent is your brand colour, and about 10 percent is one accent for things you want noticed, such as a button or an offer. It keeps a page calm and gives the eye one place to go.

Can I use more than three colours?

Yes. Most brands also have a dark text colour and a soft tint for backgrounds and dividers, which this tool gives you. Beyond that, every extra colour needs a job. If you cannot say what a colour is for, leave it out.

What do the contrast ratings mean?

Contrast is the difference in brightness between text and its background. The widely used web guideline, WCAG 2, asks for at least 4.5 to 1 for normal text and at least 3 to 1 for large text, buttons and icons. The tool shows each pair with a plain verdict.

Why does my colour show 'Large text only' on white?

A mid-tone colour, such as many oranges, teals and light blues, is not dark enough for small text on white. Use it for headings, shapes and buttons with dark or white text chosen to pass, and keep body text in the dark text colour.

Will this give me a finished brand identity?

No. It gives you a sensible starting palette and tells you what is safe for reading. A brand identity also needs a logo, type, spacing and rules for using them, and a colour should be tested on your real signboard, packaging and screens.

Is my colour sent anywhere?

No. Everything is worked out in your browser, so the colour you choose never reaches a server. The image you save is made on your device.

Will the colour look the same in print?

Not exactly. Screens mix light and printers mix ink, so a bright screen colour can print duller. Ask your printer for a proof, and for signboards and flex look at a printed sample in daylight before you approve the whole run.
