Landing page
A landing page is a standalone web page built for one goal and one audience, usually reached from an advertisement, an email or a search result. It removes distractions and presents a single clear action, such as enquiring, booking or downloading.
In practice
What it means when you are the one making the decision.
The best landing pages match the promise that brought the visitor. If an ad speaks about admissions for a particular course, the page should open with that course, not a general homepage. A short headline, proof, a clear next step and a simple form are usually enough.
Landing pages are measured by conversion rate and by the quality of leads they produce. Speed on mobile matters a great deal, since paid traffic is expensive to waste on a slow page.
Example
A coaching institute runs an ad for a weekend batch and sends visitors to a page that shows the batch dates, the fee and a booking form, not the full website.
