Marketing funnel
A marketing funnel is a model of the steps a person takes from first hearing about a business to becoming a customer. It is often described as awareness, consideration and decision, with fewer people moving through each stage.
In practice
What it means when you are the one making the decision.
The funnel helps decide what to say and where. Someone who has never heard of you needs a clear explanation and a reason to care; someone comparing options needs proof and detail; someone ready to buy needs an easy next step. Mixing them up, such as pushing a hard sell at a stranger, wastes spend.
Real journeys are less tidy than the diagram, and people move back and forth. Still, mapping the stages shows where visitors drop out, which is where improvements pay off most, and which metrics to watch at each step.
Example
A school uses a short video for awareness, a detailed fees-and-results page for consideration and a booking form for decision, measuring drop-off between each.
